this is review:

Arena Drive – it’s not musical festival only. It’s also an auto festival. Visitors could attend stunt-riding, drag-racing, jeep-trial & even amateur rap-contest. All these programs were at day. But at night, another program was waited by people – musical program. 14th June, a lot of people come to one of the best dj’s in the world – Paul van Dyk. Everybody was sure that he will play his dj-set. But they all were mistaken. PvD come with all his band: drum, guitar, synthezator & 4(!) vocalists. Ashley Tomberlin (ex-Luminary), Jessica Suitta & Ryan Merchant were among them. Before the night they have sound-check. All had pretty mood.
The beginning of the night was @ 20:00 with Jon Obir. He played on a big stage with 7 lasers & other light-equipment. People were listening to him sitting on the grass of a field. It was a sunset – was very beautiful, & Jon felt it. All his tracks were sunny, but @ the end of the set he played more powerful tracks. The sun was hidden & all people without exception began to move. Some of them even put off their shoes & t-shirts. Ground & temperature was warm.
Next artists were Alex Morph & Woody van Eyden. They began with 5-min-intro. It was cruel intro J. Half of the set they played their unforgettable bombs & but another half they really explode the public by dubbing tracks! The light-master very helped them to create this party-atmosphere. They ended & PvD appeared before the people. It was his second visit to Moscow.
For about 40 minutes he played dj-set. My opinion, it was not cool. But when we saw another artists from his band on the scene our heart began to beat more often. They opened their live with For an Angel! For about 10 years I dreamed to listen to it live & my dream came true. They played it with guitar – a big surprise for all clubbers & for me too. After that they played & sang tracks from album “In Between”. People sang together with them. The pre-last track was New York City – it was wonderful! Live vocal is great! Next track was encore – Time of Our Lives. All people threw their hands in the air to catch this time, because it was the last tune of PvD’s show. Everybody was glad.
Next Artist was Bobina (in 1,5 month I listened to him 3 times in 3 different cities). He played usual set for me. There were less experiments than in Yaroslavl, but more real trance uplifting tunes. Like year ago (Castle Dance 2007 in Vyborg) the rain was going during his set. Dmitry ended his set, but Rain didn’t end rain’s set. With rain we were dancing with Guiseppe Ottaviani.
He beated the public by every track. All his tunes were full of melody. It seems that we were situated in 2004. One og the tunes was Nu Nrg – Freefall. It was unreal!! It was FREEFALL of all who were situated on the dancefield. Guiseppe played live not on cd-players only, he also used instruments like piano. It was awesome! When he ended I felt tired & pain in my legs & legs’ fingers, but feelin’ of happyness was more J. It was Vandit Night on the 3d day of Arena Drive. & I hope that in next year artists & promoters will continue to create that great atmosphere!
